‘This One Has That Staying Power’: BTS Achieve First Top 10 on a Billboard Radio Airplay Chart With ‘Dynamite’

Bts earns its first top 10 hit on a Billboard radio airplay chart, as “Dynamite” rises from No. 11 to No. 9 in its 11th week on the Pop Songs survey (dated Nov. 7).

The song, released Aug. 21 on BigHit Entertainment/Columbia Records, ascends with a 6% gain on the survey, which measures total weekly plays, as tabulated by Nielsen Music/MRC Data, among its reporting panel of approximately 160 mainstream top 40 stations.

“Dynamite” is BTS’ sixth career entry on Pop Songs, and the act’s first all-English-language single. The group previously hit a No. 22 best on the chart with “Boy With Luv,” featuring Halsey, in May 2019. It first appeared on the list dated Dec. 23, 2017, with “MIC Drop,” featuring Desiigner.

BTS also now boasts the highest-charting Pop Songs hit by an all-South Korean act, as the hit by the septet surpasses the No. 10 peak of PSY’s “Gangnam Style” in October 2012.

After “Dynamite” debuted on the Pop Songs chart dated Aug. 29, JJ Ryan, program director at KJYO Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, predicted, “I expect this song to continue to grow [and] get stuck in listeners’ heads.”

Dynamite” previously became BTS’ first No. 1 on the all-genre, airplay-, sales- and streaming-based Billboard Hot 100, when it debuted atop the Sept. 5-dated chart. It also marked the first leader on the list for an all-South Korean act, one-upping the No. 2-peaking “Gangnam Style.”

“Dynamite” has additionally ruled both the Billboard Global 200 and Global Excl. U.S. charts.
